February 19th, 2010 by Andrea

I’m so excited for Actresses Gaborey Sidibe and Mo’Nique!  They are both nominees at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards taking place on Sunday, March 7th.  Gabby is nominated for Best Actress in the film “Precious” and Mo’Nique who has already snagged a Golden Globe and a SAG Award is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.  My trivia question today was about the Oscars.  I wanted to know who was the first African American to win an Academy Award.  It was Hattie McDaniel, she won Best Supporting Actress for her role as “Mammy” in “Gone With The Wind” in 1939.  Check out this historic acceptance speech…enough to bring tears to your eyes!

Teddy Pendergrass who became R & B’s reigning sex symbol in the 1970’s and 80’s with his forceful, masculine voice and passionate love ballads, later became an inspirational figure after suffering a devestating car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59.   Teddy underwent colon cancer surgery 8 months ago and had a difficult recovery.  He will live on through his music.
